Our Day of Service

I read this blog recently in which the writer and her kids had planned an entire day of doing kind things for others. They were little things and big things, but everything they did was for someone else. I LOVED the idea and knew right away that I wanted to do this with my girls. We started yesterday with baking cookies, muffins and writing notes.

My little bakers...

These bags we made for any homeless we see on the streets. We actually didn't see any today, but I plan to keep these in the car to pass out when we do. My friend posted a picture on Facebook the other day and I thought this was a fantastic idea since I never seem to have cash on hand. The bags contain: granola bars, little cups of applesauce, water bottle, spoon, bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, baby wipes, and an orange.

Here are pictures of the girls writing notes. They wrote notes to a couple elderly people at a nursing home. I wrote a couple of notes to others, but I choose to keep those secret.

Here are the blueberry muffins.

These are the chocolate chip cookies. We made about 8 dozen to pass out (and a few for us to sample).

We left a surprise for the mail carrier.

Of course we stopped at Daddy's work. Who better to thank than those that serve our country?

We stopped at the police station in town. The girls were so nervous being at the police station. :)

The lady that took the cookies and muffins to pass out to the police officers. Thanks for serving our community and keeping us safe!

Next stop? Fire station, of course! We got to ring the doorbell. Thanks for serving our community fire fighters!

This was in front of the nursing home. We dropped some flowers off and a couple hand written notes the girls wrote.

We also cleaned up two of the parks here on base by our house. This was the perfect way for the girls to see how even small acts of service can benefit all of us.

We made a few other stops too. A couple things we would like to keep private. All in all it was a fantastic day. We talked a lot about what service means and why it is important to help others.
